Endorsements: what are they, and do you need them?
A Recreational Pilot Certificate gets you in the air and flying, but endorsements give you more freedom to fly, and who wouldn’t want to go further?
Once you have your RPC, you can fly an RAAus licensed aircraft within 25 nautical miles of your departure airport, but chances are you’ll want to fly further than that. That’s where endorsements come in; endorsements are additional qualifications that remove restrictions and expand your privileges. Each one opens up a new part of what aviation has to offer.
Other reasons pilots get endorsements added to their RPC's are
Safety and Proficiency: endorsements ensure pilots have been trained for specific, often more complex, aircraft design features, such as manual propellers, tailwheels, or retractable landing gear, reducing risk.
Expanded Privileges: They allow pilots to perform specialised activities, including night flying, low-level flying, aerobatics, or flying in a controlled, busy airspace.
Career Development: If you're thinking beyond recreational flying, endorsements are a stepping stone toward more advanced certificates and commercial opportunities.
Endorsements you can add to your RPC at Blast Aviation are:

Human Factors
The Human Factors endorsement is a mandatory requirement for issuing a Pilot Certificate, focusing on improving safety through better decision-making, communication, and management of human error.
Requirements:
-
Complete an RAAus-recognised human factors course and pass a multiple-choice exam or obtain a passing grade in the Human Factors written exam.
Cross Country
The Cross-Country endorsement allows you to fly beyond the 25 nautical mile limit of the Recreational Pilot Certificate, enabling navigation across Australia outside controlled airspace
Requirements:
-
Have logged a minimum of 10 hours dual cross country navigation training plus a minimum of 2 hours solo cross country navigation; and
-
Reach the standard required as specified in Unit 2.03 of the RAAus Syllabus of Flight Training, and
-
Pass a RAAus Flight Navigation written examination; and
-
Pass a navigation flight test in a two-seat recreational aeroplane with a Chief Flying Instructor
Passenger
Passenger Endorsement is the first endorsement that most pilots get because you can do it while completing your RPC. It means you can show your friends and family your new skills and take them to see the views you get to enjoy!
Requirements:
-
Have logged a minimum of 10 hours flight time as pilot in command of an aeroplane; and
-
Have a minimum of 2 hours flight time as pilot in command of a two-seat recreational aeroplane of the same Group, aeroplane type and design features; and
-
Pass a flight check with an RAAus Examiner
Radio Operator
Having a Radio Operator endorsement allows you to use approved VHF frequencies legally. Your radio must be installed in, or carried aboard, your aircraft. A radio operator Endorsement is essential for communicating with other aircraft in the sky.
Requirements:
-
Pass a written exam covering aeronautical radio procedures, frequencies, and phraseology.
-
Complete an oral exam with an instructor or examiner, demonstrating the ability to operate the radio effectively and communicate in a simulated flight scenario
